Rent-to-Own Trailers Near You: How NC Trailers' Program Works

NC Trailers rent-to-own trailer options at the Thomasville and Winston-Salem lots

If you've searched for a rent-to-own trailer near you, it's usually for one of two reasons: you need a trailer now and can't wait on a traditional financing approval, or past credit has made approval hard to get. NC Trailers runs a rent-to-own program that covers both. It gives buyers across the Piedmont Triad a path to ownership that doesn't start with a credit check, and it works the same whether you come to our Thomasville lot or our Winston-Salem lot. Here's how it works, from the first payment at the dealership to what happens if you can't keep up down the road.

What Rent-to-Own Actually Means for a Trailer Purchase

Rent-to-own is different from a traditional loan in one way that matters: you don't own the trailer when you drive off the lot. You make monthly rental payments over a set term, and when the term is done, ownership transfers to you. During that time you're using the trailer for whatever you bought it for, whether that's hauling equipment for a growing landscaping business or moving a car you just picked up, and every payment moves you closer to owning it outright.

NC Trailers' Rent-to-Own Partnership With Hometowne Capital

NC Trailers partners with Hometowne Capital to run the rent-to-own program, and that partnership is what makes approval possible without a credit check. Hometowne Capital handles your monthly payments after the first one at the dealership, and they approve based on basic identity and residency verification instead of a credit score. That's why the program works for buyers who wouldn't clear traditional trailer financing, whether the reason is a thin credit file, past credit trouble, or just not wanting a hard inquiry on their record.

No Credit Check Required to Start

The requirements to qualify are short. You need to be 21 or older, hold a valid U.S. driver's license, carry current proof of insurance on the vehicle that will tow the trailer, and show proof of residency dated within the last 30 days, such as a utility bill, pay stub, or bank statement in your name. There's no credit report pulled and no minimum score to clear, which is the biggest difference between this and a standard trailer loan. Approvals run in real time during business hours, and applications that come in after hours still get processed, though funding can take a little longer if the verification documents need a second look.

What Your First Payment at the Dealership Covers

Once you've picked a trailer and signed the rent-to-own agreement, you make your first payment at the dealership before you leave with the trailer. That first payment covers the first month's rent plus a deposit. After that, your monthly payments run through Hometowne Capital instead of through us, so you manage the account with the finance partner once the trailer is in your hands.

What Happens If You Can't Make a Payment

Plans change, and the program is built to handle that. If you reach a point where you can't make a payment, you return the trailer to NC Trailers, we terminate the rent-to-own contract, and we take back possession. There's no long-term financing balance chasing you afterward the way a defaulted loan can. That flexibility is a real part of why rent-to-own appeals to buyers who want to put a trailer to work without the long-term commitment a traditional loan locks you into.

Applying for Rent-to-Own: What to Expect

The application moves fast once you've settled on a trailer. You start with an online application that links to our rent-to-own form, and from there we follow up to confirm your information and walk you through the next steps. Real-time approvals run 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. CST Monday through Friday and 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. Applications sent outside those hours still get processed, but funding can slip if the verification documents on file need more review. Once you're approved, you pick your trailer, sign the agreement at the dealership, make that first payment, and tow it home the same day.

Which Trailer Types Are Eligible for Rent-to-Own at NC Trailers

The program covers most of what's on our lots: enclosed trailers, dump trailers, landscape and utility trailers, roll-off trailers, car haulers, equipment and tilt trailers, gooseneck trailers, and drop deck trailers. That covers most buyers who walk in, whether you're a contractor who needs an equipment trailer to take on a bigger job or a landscaper picking up a utility trailer for a first season on your own. One thing to know upfront: most rent-to-own agreements don't allow structural changes to the trailer while you're still renting it, so any customization usually waits until the term is up and the title is yours.

How Rent-to-Own Compares to Traditional Financing

Traditional financing and rent-to-own solve different problems, and we offer both because buyers show up with different needs. Traditional financing usually comes with lower rates and longer terms, sometimes up to seven years, because the trailer is collateral and the lender is judging your credit directly. If you qualify, that generally means a lower total cost over time. Rent-to-own trades some of that rate advantage for access. There's no credit check, approval is fast, and it's open to buyers who wouldn't clear a traditional lender, plus you can return the trailer without a long-term penalty if your situation changes. If you're rebuilding credit, making your rent-to-own payments on time is also a practical way to build a track record before you go after traditional financing on your next trailer.

  Rent-to-Own Traditional Financing
Credit check None Required
Approval speed Real-time, same-day pickup Depends on lender review
To qualify 21+, driver's license, insurance, proof of residency Credit approval
Rate and total cost Higher, trades rate for access Lower if you qualify
Term length Set rental term, then ownership transfers Up to about seven years
If you can't pay Return the trailer, contract ends, no lingering balance Loan default, credit impact

Finding a Rent to Own Trailer Near Me at NC Trailers

NC Trailers, formally North Carolina Trailer Sales, offers rent-to-own at both the Thomasville and Winston-Salem locations, which puts the program within reach across the Piedmont Triad and the surrounding parts of North Carolina. Because the bar to qualify is a driver's license, insurance, and proof of residency rather than a credit pull, it tends to move faster than buyers expect, and picking up a trailer the same day you apply is realistic if your paperwork is ready. If you're ready to see which trailers qualify and get started, visit the rent-to-own program page, compare it against traditional financing options, or read our guide on trailer financing for buyers with bad credit to see how the two paths line up for your situation.

I called and needed something to haul a car on short notice/same day. Carter in Winston Salem found what I needed at the Thomasville location, had the ball rolling on the paperwork and everything within minutes.
I arrived at the Thomasville location and was immediately greeted by and taken care of by Sam. She treated me as if was her own customer and was amazing. Everyone there was super helpful from Shancie in finance, to Tammy who handled my tags to Christian who hooked me up and answered all the questions I had and even the parts/service guys getting my hitch etc.

This was by FAR the best sales experience I’ve ever had hands down. If you need a trailer call Sam in Thomasville or Carter in Winston!

Purchased a 6x12 Nolan trailer today, Dave in Sales assisted and did a great job showing me the trailer and explaining the features and working thru the paperwork; Shancie assisted with processing the registration & tag paperwork and getting all the appropriate paperwork for that filled out; and Christian assisted in getting the trailer hooked up and explaining important items regarding safety, maintenance, etc. Overall very pleased with the transaction and the service received and highly recommend NC Trailers to perspective buyers.
