3. Custom Food & Concession Trailers
When it comes to purchasing a food trailer, there are a lot of different ways you can build out your trailer depending on your needs. And it is important to know how you will use your food trailer! The way you plan on using your trailer will dictate your needs! Will you be cooking in the trailer or cooking somewhere else and the food trailer will be used for assembling and selling the food? Have you checked with the Health Department to see what they require? In North Carolina you will also need a commissary kitchen, which is a licensed base kitchen your trailer operates out of, so plan on that before you buy. Making a purchase without knowing what the requirements from the Health Department are could needlessly make this process much more difficult and expensive. Remember, our goal is to help you achieve your goals in the most beneficial and least expensive manner possible!
If you are planning on using restaurant equipment (grills, stovetop, deep fryers, etc.), have you shopped for them yet? It is recommended that you do because all the equipment has to fit in the food trailer and that could change the requirements needed for space. Also, depending on what equipment chosen, you may need heavier duty electrical packages or you may need to plan for other things, like propane gas. All of these things need to be addressed before a meaningful price can be quoted.

A good bit of this work we do right here in our own shop. We install generators and service them, and we install propane, electrical, appliances, plumbing and bathrooms.
We can also order a unit built to your spec straight from the factory, and that is worth asking about before you decide. It is often more cost effective to have the trailer built with the options than to buy it plain and upfit it after the fact. Either way you are not limited to what is sitting on the lot.
